| Some Serious Problems With The Criminal Justice System | ||||
| 1. Lighter sentences for those who admit guilt - As such greater punishment is then given to the probably guilty, rather than the assuredly so. 2. "Beyond all reasonable doubt" - The requirement for finding someone guilty is so stringent, that only the most stubborn pig headed person could agree with it, whereas hyper nuerotics such as myself would forever delay the jury's decision by arguing that no matter how stupid the defense, it might actually be correct. This in turn puts everyone in jail who didn't plead guilty there as the result of a mistrial, as I refuse to believe over half the population isn't insanely nuerotic. 3. The actual complexities of law - Everyone could tell you the details of the legal term "murder". However if you're on a jury for a libel or fraud trial, the actual details of the law are probably foreign to you. Being lazy I'm sure lots of jurors would vote "guilty" so they didn't have to get their heads around complex financial matters or the like. 4. The police - Policemen are by and large people who want to help out, earn some money and get on with their lives. Some of course are stupid ignorant racist bullies, so how the fuck are you supposed to tell which is which? 5. The British population - Thanks to such bastians of common sense as The Daily Mail and the ITV News, the average British person now demands that justice for a crime be carried out in somewhere approximating 30 minutes. Otherwise everyone involved in investigating, from the Home Secretary down the the policeman having a fag break be sacked. 6. Criminals - The major problem is of course people breaking the law. Without them the entire system would work flawlessly. Back |
